DCC questions and answers
-
Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) allows international cardholders to pay in their home currency, no matter where they are located. This service not only provides added value for the cardholders but also benefits merchants who earn an additional payback on every transaction.
-
DCC offers the following advantages:
- DCC paybacks (paybacks to merchants for each DCC transaction) are directly offset with the transaction fees. This means merchants benefit from DCC transaction revenues with every payment.
- The DCC paybacks and additional information (e.g., the applied DCC exchange rate or DCC currency) are automatically displayed during the transaction and not afterwards. This provides all relevant information at the time of transaction and from a single source, making it easier to keep track.
- Dynamic Currency Conversion is available for more than 40 DCC currencies.
- Upon request, you can obtain the DCC report (a PDF document) from Worldline free of charge. It is uploaded monthly on myPortal and provides a summary of all DCC transactions and the total amount of DCC paybacks from the previous month per card brand. The report also lists the unused DCC potential (transactions that could have been processed with DCC but were conducted without it).
Additional Advantages:
- Attractive DCC exchange rate for each DCC transaction
- Daily updated exchange rates
- Best Rate Guarantee; If cardholders can prove that the exchange rate of their issuing bank (including any fees) is better than our rate, Worldline will refund the difference. You, as a merchant, are not involved in resolving customer claims at any time!
- No changes to existing payment processes

The DCC exchange rate fee consists of the exchange rate and a markup. The DCC exchange rate fee is charged as a result of currency conversion costs incurred and due to fluctuations in international currency markets. Such fluctuations are the cause of deviations between DCC rates and exchange rates on international markets. The markup ensures that the associated risk borne by us remains manageable, and is already included in the exchange rate.
-
The DCC exchange rate includes the following elements:
- The exchange rate is provided daily by SIX Financial Information
- Currency exchange fee for the currency conversion (markup)
-
DCC exchange rates can be printed out from the standalone terminals once DCC is enabled. You can find them in the main menu under “Queries”.

There is the MPD solution, which only works with VEZ+ protocol (EOL and incompliant) and must be switched to the TIM solutions. TIM Server is compatible with the features of MPD.
The TIM solutions work on both protocols, VEZ+ and SIXml. With SIXml being the newer and complaint protocol. Therefore, all merchants that already use the TIM solutions with VEZ+ protocol must switch to SIXml.
-
The VEZ+ protocol is End of Life, DCC incompliant and no developments can be performed. Therefore, a switch of the protocol to SIXml must be performed.
-
Please contact your integrator for more information on how to switch the integration protocol to SIXml. They have the direct contact to the Worldline technical integration team.
